Arvind Kejriwal Accuses BJP of Coercing TMC MLA into Joining Party Amid ED Raid

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging a connection between an Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid and a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA's subsequent switch to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Kejriwal, in a social media post on X platform, asserted that ministers are being compelled to join the saffron party under the threat of legal repercussions.

Kejriwal insinuated a correlation between the ED raids targeting former TMC MLA Tapas Roy and his subsequent defection to the BJP. He asserted, "How people are included in BJP by getting harassed by ED. After getting the ED raid done, the question is asked - where will you go - BJP or jail? Those who refuse to go to BJP, they send them to jail."

Roy's decision to join the BJP follows an ED raid on his residence in January, concerning alleged irregularities in civic body recruitments. Kejriwal suggested that joining the BJP appears to serve as a means to evade legal consequences, implying that individuals like Satyendar Jain, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh could secure bail immediately upon joining the BJP, despite no criminal wrongdoing on their part.

Referring to his own situation with the ED, Kejriwal hinted that joining the BJP could halt the agency's summonses against him. The ED recently filed a fresh complaint seeking Kejriwal's prosecution for failing to appear before it in a money laundering case. Kejriwal has denounced the summonses as "illegal" and expressed willingness to be questioned via videoconferencing post-March 12.

Despite facing legal scrutiny, Kejriwal remains steadfast, asserting, "We have not done anything wrong nor are we trying to hide." His confrontational stance against the BJP underscores escalating tensions between political rivals as the political landscape in Delhi continues to evolve.
